May I ask when is the best time to visit Chengdu?

Spring (March - May) in Chengdu often comes early from the beginning of March and lasts long until early May. There are frequent alternative changes, sometimes you may feel chilly in Spring. Every spring the Peach Blossom Festival is celebrated in Longquanyi District in eastern Chengdu. And the best time to see the peach blossoms is from late March to early April.

Summer (June - August) in Chengdu is hot and rainy, starting from mid-May to the end of August. The weather is hot and sultry but the temperature seldom exceeds 35 degrees Celsius. To escape the summer heat, you can visit the nearby Qingcheng Mountains and Mt. Emei, and summer is the best season to see the giant pandas when they are most active.

Autumn (September - November) usually starts from September and lasts till the end of October or early November. In late Autumn, the temperature drops quickly and there may be a lot of rain. This is one of the best time to visit Chengdu, when the Ginkgo trees turn into a color of the glorious gold. The autumn scenery at Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong are among the most beautiful in China.

What are Chengdu local specialties or food?

1. Hotpot: You can't come to Sichuan without trying hotpot, one of the most famous and most popular meals in China. Hotpot, also called Huo Guo in Sichuan starts with a broth filled with chili, chili oil, and local peppercorns. This giant bowl of soup is placed in your table and the rest of the meal is up to you.

2. Chengdu Pancakes: The pancakes that are used to wrap a variety of sweet, salty or spicy ingredients and eaten like a taco. The egg-based batter is poured into a small pan and the filling options are easy to point to on the cart. Popular combinations are potato and chili sauce, peanut butter and hawthorne flakes, or pork floss and pickled veggies.

3. Tea: Chengdu is known in China for its laid-back lifestyle. Visit a local park any day of the week and you’ll find hundreds (or thousands) of locals sipping tea and spending time with friends, etc. Sometimes over a game of mahjong or cards. This is a legitimately local way to spend an afternoon, watching life go by and maybe even enjoying an ear-cleaning by the roaming vendors that offer to pick your ear wax out for a small fee.

4. Mapo Tofu: Silky chunks of tofu served in a large bowl filled to the brim with a crazy spicy chili sauce and ground pork. We don’t know if we need to say more! It is a staple at every traditional Sichuan restaurant, and a must-try when visiting Chengdu.
