Shuimo Ancient Town

Overview
Shuimo Town is a blending area of Han and ethnic minorities. It has been endowed with heavy new elements of Nanyue in post-disaster reconstruction. Inland customs and Tibetan and Qiang cultures complement each other, and Xishu humanities and Zen and Buddha cultures bloom together. After the 5.12 earthquake, the three major districts of “Shenshou Old Street, Shouxi Lake and Qiang City” were rebuilt in Shuimo Ancient Town. The combination of ancient and modern history and culture, the combination of Sichuan and Guangxi development concepts, and the integration of Tibetan and Qiang cultural styles. It is like an “ink painting” of “alpine valleys, lakes and mountains, ancient streets, and overflowing customs”. It is known as the first town to rebuild after the Wenchuan earthquake.

History
As early as the Shang Dynasty, Shuimo Ancient Town enjoyed the reputation of “Longevity Town”, and was sometimes called the Old Village. It is 76 kilometers away from Chengdu and 25 kilometers away from Dujiangyan City. It is an emerald inlaid between Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain, Wolong Giant Panda Habitat, Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. It is a famous town of Xiqiang culture. Chanshou Old Street embodies the ancient people’s architectural thinking and concept of “integration of man and nature”. The buildings on both sides of the Spring Breeze Pavilion, Doctor’s Day, Wannian Terrace, Character Store, and White Pagoda are landscape buildings built with the essence of Tibetan and Qiang Han national architectural characteristics . Feimazhai is now a horse-riding tourist attraction in the scenic area of Shuimo Ancient Town. There are historic sites such as Shuishengou, Rhino Pond, and Wangshanpo behind the village.

What to see
As the general Manager from Local China guide (Chengdu office), Mr. Tony and the team have organized trips to Mt Qingcheng, Dujiangyan Irrigation system and the Giant Panda Breeding center near Qingcheng many times. What we would like to recommend for foreign travelers is: go to hike the back and main mountain of Qingcheng. It is much more beautiful than the front mountain of Qingcheng.
