Overview
Dagu Glacier is located in the Dagu Snow Mountain, Heishui County. It has an altitude of 3800 to 5100 m and lies more than 280 km away from Chengdu. The scenic area reaches 119 square kilometers. At the peak of the mountain, snow cap can be seen around the year, with modern mountain glaciers as thick as 60 to 200 m developed on the north and south slopes. Three of them, namely 1, 2, 3 Glacier, cover an area of about 8.25 square kilometers. This region can be categorized as plateau climate, with clarity between drought and rainy seasons, abundant sunshine, and a small yearly temperature difference, and a large daily difference. Extreme summer heat and winter chill is nowhere to be found, and the annual average temperature is 9.5 ?.
The Dagu Glacier resort features mainly spring flowers, summer ice, autumn leaves and winter snow. During the heyday of Quaternary glacier, it is a large flat-topped glacier with ice caps. At present, the resort has a total of 13 modern glaciers with end to end and the ice area has reached 6.04 square kilometers: a spectacular scene.
Dagu Snow Mountain is capped with snow all the year round. Majestically steep mountains, scattering peaks and base are what characterize it. The steep mountains remain snow-capped in all the four seasons, looking like an empty towers thorns the sky. Among the steep ravines and rock cliffs, saussurea are growing vigorously, where highland lakes dot the area. At the foot of the hills, trees grow thickly. During the heyday of Quaternary glacier, the whole of the ancient flat-topped mountain was covered with a unified glacier and ice cap, which extended its outer edge along the tributaries valley into areas around 3300-3500 meters above the sea level. With the rise in planet temperatures, glaciers almost always stay in retreat. The Kingdom of Snow on Dagu Mountain shrinks gradually, giving place to a great number of ancient glacial lakes with large area; large tracts of primitive forest in temperate mountains and animals multiplying there for have added to it some lively ecology content.
In the forest, ancient trees of a height of tens of meters, which can only be surrounded by several people, are to be found everywhere. Red and soft moss and thick carpet of pine needles extend to the depths of the jungle. Brooks splash out jade, playing upon the most primitive joy of notes. Free to all kinds of precious wildlife, this piece of pure land has been habited by argali, blue sheep, bison, eagles, eared pheasants and other variety of animals, literally everything.
Even more surprising is that these animals and humans have been getting along quite well. When visitors passing by, they are still immersed in their own world, and some animals are busy foraging in a meadow, jumping between some rock, some are playing with each other, feeling comfortable, and some come back and forth, as if sharing joy with the visitors. Clear blue sky is occasionally passed through by a vigorous eagle, leaving its valiant posture and extreme chic. Here you see a peculiar landscape of people and animals living in harmony. There is no panic, no slaughter, and everything is so calm and cordial.
