Tour Style:
This 7-day private tour runs from the streets of Chengdu into the mountain parks of the northwest. Your English-speaking guide starts in Chengdu at the Giant Panda Base, Renmin Park and Jinli Ancient Street, at a pace you set. A private car and driver then carry you to the Leshan Giant Buddha and up Mount Emei to its hilltop temples. A high-speed train links Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou, turning the long mountain leg into a few scenic hours by the window. There you walk boardwalks between turquoise lakes, stepped waterfalls and mineral pools, with Nuorilang Waterfall as the centerpiece. Your guide handles tickets and timing, points you to a local kitchen rather than a tourist trap, and keeps each day flexible; lunch stays open on purpose so you pay for what you eat.

On arrival at Chengdu Shuangliu or Tianfu airport, your driver waits at the exit with a Your Way Holiday sign and drives you to your hotel in a private air-conditioned car, with bags in the trunk and bottled water on board. Check-in is usually from the afternoon, and the rest of the day is free, so you can rest or eat a first plate of Sichuan food near the hotel. Your guide meets you the next morning to begin the seven days that circle Chengdu, Leshan, Mount Emei, and Jiuzhaigou.
Your guide meets you in the hotel lobby at the time you choose and your private driver sets out for the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, about 17 kilometres from the center. The drive is early on purpose: pandas are most active, and the walkways least busy, in the cool of the morning. Bags stay in the car and bottled water is on board for the visit.

The base is home to more than a hundred giant pandas of every age and the largest group of captive pandas in the world, alongside red pandas in the trees. Your guide walks the shaded paths with you and explains what the keepers feed each panda and how cubs grow through the year, then leaves time at the nursery and the viewing slopes. In autumn the bamboo turns gold and the crowds thin, and your guide points out the quieter corners.

After lunch the car crosses to Wenshu Monastery, the busiest working temple in Chengdu and a place dedicated to Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom. Its red entrance wall, incense courtyards, and garden teahouses have been restored block by block, and your guide walks you past the main halls and the calligraphy and painting collections. It is a calm stop, and you can light incense or simply sit in the courtyard with a cup of tea.

Renmin Park is where the city slows down. Your guide leads you past the lake to the open-air Heming Teahouse, where you sit on bamboo chairs, order a covered bowl of jasmine tea, and refill it as often as you like. Around you residents dance, practice tai chi, play Chinese chess, and sing folk songs, and your guide explains what you are watching. It is the easiest place in Chengdu to see everyday life rather than a staged version of it.

As evening falls, the walk moves to Jinli Ancient Street beside Wuhou Temple, a lane of timber shopfronts and red lanterns whose history reaches back to the Three Kingdoms era. It was named one of the most beautiful streets in the world by CNN Travel in 2021, and your guide steers you to the stalls for hand-pulled candy, Sichuan pepper snacks, and shadow puppets before giving you free time to browse and photograph the lantern light.

When the day ends your driver brings you back to your hotel in central Chengdu. Your guide uses the ride to place the day together, from the pandas to the teahouse, and answers the questions you will want to ask before the next morning, when the tour heads south to Leshan and Mount Emei. Bags are carried to the desk and the evening is yours to rest.
Your guide collects you from the hotel after breakfast and drives about two hours southwest to Leshan, home to the Leshan Giant Buddha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site cut into a red cliff some 1,200 years ago. At 71 metres it is the largest stone Buddha carved into a cliff face anywhere, set where three rivers meet below the headland. Your guide explains how the carving began and why the statue looks out over the water.

From the top you descend a narrow cliff stair that runs right beside the Buddha, so you can read the details up close, the curled hair, the folded robe, and the calm face, and judge the scale from the platform at its feet. The path is one-way and can crowd, so your guide times the descent and keeps you clear of the busiest stretch. On the way back up there are viewing points across the river.

Later your driver takes you roughly 45 kilometres on to Baoguo Temple, the largest of the old monasteries at the foot of Mount Emei. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it opens through carved wooden gates into a run of halls and courtyards, and your guide explains its role as the starting point for the mountain and a center of Buddhist life here. It is a short, easy visit that sets up the full climb on the next day.

After the temple your guide and driver take you back to your hotel in Chengdu, a scenic drive you can spend resting or asking questions about what you saw. Bags are carried in and your guide helps with check-in if you need it, then the evening is free. Tomorrow is the climb up Mount Emei, so an early night is worth it, and the car will be at the door in the morning.
Today is given over to Mount Emei, one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, threaded with temples and monkey-filled forest paths. Your guide sets out the plan at the hotel and drives you to the Tourist Center, where the mountain transport begins. The day mixes bus, cable car, and a few easy walks so that you reach the high temples without spending the whole climb on foot.

From the Tourist Center the sightseeing bus runs up the winding road to Leidongping, about an hour and a half to two hours, and your guide points out the valleys as you climb. A gentle 30-minute stroll on level boardwalk takes you from the bus stop to Jieyin Hall, whose name means the bridge to enlightenment. There your guide buys the cable-car tickets and you ride the last stretch up to the summit zone without the hard stair.

At the Golden Summit, around 3,077 metres, the temple complex is gilded and set on open terraces, and the weather here changes quickly. Visitors come for four sights your guide will talk you around: the sunrise, a sea of clouds below the peak, the rare ring of light called the Buddhist halo, and the lamps kept burning in the halls. You have free time to move between the pavilions and the great golden statue, and your guide stays nearby to help with photos.

In the afternoon your guide takes the cable car and bus back down to the car waiting at the center, and your driver returns you to your hotel in Chengdu. The drive is a chance to rest, and your guide sums up the mountain and its temples before you go. Bags are carried to your room, and tomorrow the tour leaves Chengdu for Jiuzhaigou, so tell your guide if you want a late dinner or an early pick-up agreed for the morning.
Your guide meets you in the lobby after breakfast and drives you to Chengdu East station, where you board a high-speed train to Huanglong Jiuzhai Station, a ride of about an hour and a half to two hours. Seats are booked in your name and your bags stay with you. At the station your local guide and driver take over in a private car, so there is no taxi search, and the drive heads toward the valley of Huanglong.

Huanglong is a high valley of yellow limestone terraces, and its name, the Yellow Dragon, comes from the way the pale formations snake downhill between the forest like a dragon seen from above. Mineral-rich water has laid down calcium carbonate over thousands of years to build the pools, which hold blues, greens, and golds depending on the light and the depth. Your guide explains how the terraces formed and helps you decide how much to walk.

Rather than a long climb, your guide takes the cable car straight to the top of the valley so you can spend the effort on the easy walk back down, which usually takes three to four hours. From the summit path the terraces open out below you, and you pass the smaller pools and the old temple buildings on the way to the valley floor. There are benches along the boardwalk, and you can stop whenever you like.

At the top of the group of pools, around 3,556 metres, the Five-Color Ponds spread out in front of you, nearly seven hundred small basins in blue, emerald, gold, and clear white. The water is shallow and still, so the colors read brightest in the morning light, and your guide finds the viewing points where you can see several ponds at once. The altitude is noticeable, so the pace here is slow and unhurried.

After a few hours in the valley your driver takes you on a scenic two-hour run of about 104 kilometres to Jiuzhaigou, where you stay the night near the park. Your guide uses the drive to set up the following morning, when you go inside Jiuzhaigou itself. Bags are carried to your room, and if you want dinner booked or a quiet evening, tell your guide and the car can stop on the way.
Today you spend a full day inside Jiuzhaigou National Park. After breakfast your guide drives you to the gate and helps you onto the park sightseeing bus, the clean way to cover the distance between the lakes. From the first stop you can see why the valley is protected: the water is so clear you can read the fallen trunks on the bottom, and the hills are thick with pine and birch.

Jiuzhaigou is shaped like a Y, with three arms that your guide and the bus take in turn: Zechawa on the upper right, Rize on the upper left, and Shuzheng running down the stem to the gate. Each holds a different set of lakes and falls, so your guide picks the highlights and lets you stay longer where you like. Between stops the bus runs constantly, so you are never far from a ride.

The day builds around the Nuorilang Waterfall, a broad silver sheet of water pouring through the trees and the signature view of the park. Your guide takes you up to Zechawa Valley afterward for the short boardwalk walk to Five-Flower Lake and Pearl Beach, where the pools shift from blue to green depending on the sun and the minerals below the surface. There is time at each stop to stand still and look rather than only to photograph.

By late afternoon you are back at the gate, and your driver takes you to your hotel in the Jiuzhaigou area for the night. On the way your guide flags the ones worth revisiting in the morning light or the spots you may want to ask about. Bags go to your room and the evening is restful, because tomorrow your guide arranges the drive and train that carries you back toward Chengdu.
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide meets you and walks you to Jiuzhaigou railway station for the high-speed train back to Chengdu. The line runs through deep river valleys and pale limestone peaks, so a window seat gives you one last long look at the Sichuan landscape. On arrival in Chengdu your driver is waiting with the car, helps with your luggage, and takes you to Chengdu airport or the city train station, whichever your onward trip needs, timed around your departure. Because the tour can start or finish at a Chengdu hotel, station, or airport, send us your flight or train details ahead of time and we plan the pickup and the vehicle around them.
The itinerary runs 7 days and 6 nights. It begins and ends in Chengdu, and departures are available every day of the year, so you can align the start with your arrival flight.
It is a private tour. Only the people in your booking join you, with a dedicated English-speaking guide and a private air-conditioned car and driver for the whole week.
Chengdu (Giant Panda Base, Wenshu Monastery, Renmin Park and Jinli Ancient Street), the Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei, Huanglong National Park and Jiuzhaigou make up the route.
The long leg is done by high-speed train, which cuts what used to be a full day of driving down to a few scenic hours. Your guide handles the timing and meets you on both ends.
