Had such a pleasant trip to see the pandas and the Buddha in Leshan! Ellen, the guide, and the driver arrived punctually at the hotel and took me to all the best spots for pictures while sharing fascinating insights about the pandas and Chengdu. We enjoyed a great lunch before embarking on a lovely boat ride to see the Buddha. Everything went smoothly from the reservation process to the end of the tour, and the spacious, clean car made for a comfortable drive!

Hi there,
I am planing of doing the Yading Big Kora in late November - early December. Do you think this is too late and too much snow? And what tours do you offer including this trek?
Thanks,
Sacha

Replied:
Thank you for your inquiry about trekking the Yading Big Kora in late November/early December.
While the Big Kora is a breathtaking trek, this time of year does bring significant challenges. By late November, the high-altitude trails are often covered in snow and ice, making the trek both difficult and potentially unsafe. In many years, the trail is closed to trekkers due to harsh winter conditions, so we would not recommend attempting the Big Kora during this period.
That said, we offer a range of winter tours to Daocheng Yading that focus on the accessible lower-altitude scenic areas. These include visits to the stunning Pearl Lake and the surrounding sacred peaks, which are beautiful even in winter. Our tours include private transportation, accommodation, and optional guides to help you make the most of your visit safely.
For more details on our available winter itineraries and recommendations, please contact us at [email protected]. We’d be happy to help you plan a safe and unforgettable trip.

The Leshan Giant Buddha is one of the must-see attractions when visiting Chengdu although it is located more than 2 hours away in the city of Leshan. Visitors have a choice of viewing the 233-ft stone carving from a built-in stairway in the mountain or riding a ferry, which is what we did. The ferry entrance is located far from the parking area but there are rickshaws that can take you there faster if you don’t want to walk. There were many local tourists on the day of our visit so the queue going to the ferry was quite long. The Giant Buddha stone carving is really huge up close, and it isn’t a surprise that it took 99 years to build. However, the once ferry passes the Buddha, it will immediately go back to the docking station to pick up more passengers so this tour was quite quick. If you come with a tour guide, he/she will be able to discuss the stone carving’s history, which is nothing short of fascinating. Very educational too, I must say.

Jesse, our guide, gave my companion and me a thoughtful, well-planned, and courteous introduction to this city. We enjoyed our day very much. We arrived during the National Day celebration, so the city was crowded, but being among so many local people made our experience an authentic one. Thank you, Jesse!

Emy is a wonderful tour guide who took me around to the most important places in the city in a day and gave me a good introduction to this beautiful place. She is also quite flexible; for example, realizing that I am not a shopper, she took me to People’s Park instead, which was a great place to observe locals. The lunch restaurant Emy took me to was sooo delicious—best double-cooked pork ever! Lastly, the vehicle was new and very comfortable! I highly recommend this tour and Emy to any visitor to Chengdu!

I had the pleasure of doing the tour with Lulu, who is a fantastic guide. She showed us the old town and took us to a monastery with a beautiful temple. Lulu provided a wealth of information about everything we saw, making it all very interesting. Her English is excellent, and she is a very pleasant lady. We also enjoyed a lovely meal together. I highly recommend this tour and the organization FINDING CHINA; they are well-organized and punctual!

This was an absolutely amazing tour of Chengdu! We visited each site at the perfect time, ensuring nothing was too crowded. All the locations were beautiful, and there were opportunities to pick up souvenirs along the way, but they were never required. For lunch, we enjoyed local Sichuan cuisine and had the option to choose our preferred level of spiciness. Our tour guide, Frank, was extremely knowledgeable, sharing insights about the various sites in Chengdu and answering our questions about the city and Chinese history. He was personable and incredibly helpful, even taking many pictures for us throughout the day. We highly recommend this tour to anyone interested!

We had an amazing trip to the Dujiangyan panda centre. Being a Panda keeper for the day is worth every penny. We saw over 40 Pandas, a good mix of baby pandas and adults. We made panda cakes, cleaned the enclosure and the best of all was feeding the beautiful panda bamboo shoots in his enclosure. So much fun. 5 stars.

This review of our October trip is a bit late, but I must say it was one of my best experiences in China. We were met at our hotel by Jay, who was an informative and personable guide throughout the day. He not only shared insights about the panda center but also engaged us in conversations about our life experiences and mutual interests, highlighting our shared love for pandas as Americans. Acting as panda keepers while the pandas watched us clean their areas was a unique experience, and feeding them their snacks was a real treat. Observing them munch on bamboo and lounge in their enclosures was delightful. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and learned a lot from a video about the research centers, with another highlight being the chance to see the adorable Red Pandas and some bears.
