Overview
Kunming is a multi-ethnic city. Among the numerous national festivals, "the firebrand festival" of Yi people, "the march street" of Bai nationality, "the water splashing festival" of Dai nationality, "the trampling on Huashan activity" of Miao nationality, and the "Dao Gan festival" of Lisu nationality are well-known and colorful. There are also many kinds of local literature and art programs in Kunming, such as Yunnan opera, Huadeng opera, Folk song minor, Ethnic opera, Folk narrative poem, Folk legend, etc. after hundreds of years of development and praise, they are loved by the masses of the people.

The Firebrand Festival of the Yi Ethnic Group
Firebrand Festival is a traditional festival in the Yi area. It is held on June 24 of the lunar calendar every year. It is popular in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other Yi areas. On the day of Firebrand Festival, Yi people hold recreational activities such as bullfighting and wrestling during the day; at night, they light torches and March in groups around villages, fields, and mountains, dancing and singing.

The March Street Festival of Bai People
March street, also known as "Guanyin Market" and "Guanyin Street", is a traditional grand festival of the Bai nationality, and also a grand gathering of folk material exchange and cultural and recreational activities of Bai people, which is popular in Dali, Yunnan Province. 

March street is held at the foot of Cangshan Mountain every year from March 15 to 21 of the lunar calendar. At first, it had the color of religious activities, and then gradually became a grand material exchange meeting. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were merchants in Sichuan, Tibet and Southeast china. It is not only a place for exchange, but also a garden for performing various dances, horse racing and competitions.

The Water Splashing Festival of Dai People
The water splashing Festival, also known as "bathing Buddha Festival", is a traditional festival of Dai, Achang, Bulang, WA, De'ang, Thai speaking and Southeast Asian regions. On that day, people from many ethnic areas got up early in the morning to bathe in Buddha worship, and then began to celebrate for several days. During this period, people sprinkled each other with pure water, praying to wash away the irregularities of the past year. The water sprinkling Festival is a comprehensive stage to show the water culture, music and dance culture, food culture, clothing culture and folk worship of the Dai people.

Huashan Festival of Miao People
Huashan Festival, also known as "stepping on Huashan" and "jumping flower", is a traditional festival of Miao nationality. It is prevalent in the south of Sichuan and southeast of Yunnan. Different festivals are held around the Dragon Boat Festival in May. During the festival, the Miao people gather in their costumes to the traditional jumping ground. Young men and women dance in the center of the dance ground. The male youth also compete in pole climbing, horse racing, archery, singing, dancing and beauty pageant.

Dian Opera (Yunnan Opera)
Yunnan opera is a kind of traditional local drama in Yunnan Province. It was formed in the Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, and was popular in Yunnan Province, Guizhou and Sichuan. Some areas in Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries also had singing activities. Yunnan opera has a unique tune and strong expression.
